WALTER E. ELY

Walter Edward Ely passed away at St Peter's Hospital in Albany N.Y., early Friday morning, April 18, 2014, after a long battle with lung cancer. Walter was born to George A. and Phyllis C. Ely June 30, 1936, in Bennington, Vt. He is survived by his daughter, Inge (Tennant) Crause and husband, Justin, of Edmonton, Alberta; two grandsons, Ross and wife, Sara, and Randall Tennant of Prince George, Va.; his great-granddaughters, Arawyn and Campbell Tennant; siblings, William and Mary of New York; sister-in-law, Roswitha Anderson of Prince George, Va.; several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra; wife, Ursula, whom he cherished and loved for 50 years. Walter was a retired U.S. Army veteran, whose awards included the Meritorious Service Medal and Air Medal, and was retired from Stone Container in Hopewell. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday May 2, 2014, with full military honors, in Appomattox Cemetery with interment to follow. Condolences may register at www.memorialfh.com.¹
