GEORGE A. ELY SR.
HOOSICK, N.Y. - George A. Ely Sr., 77, of Hoosick, died
Sunday evening at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington,
Vt., after a short illness. Bom in Pownal on March 6, 1907,
he was the son of George and Minnie (Myers) Ely. A retiree
of the Boston and Maine Railroad, he later became a
self-employed carpenter. Mr. Ely was an avid outdoorsman.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Derby
Club, both in Hoosick Falls. Survivors include his wife,
the former Phyllis Cantelo; a daughter, Mary Hagadorn of
Hoosick; four sons, George Jr. of Fairbanks, Alaska, Walter
of Hopewell, Va , William of Aberdeen, Md., and Charles of
Potter Hill; two sisters, Marjorie Towslee of Cartersvilla,
Ga., and Dorothy Towslee of Hoosick Falls; 13 grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Mahar
Funeral Home in Hoosick Falls. Friends may call one hour
before the service. Burial will follow at Hoosick Cemetery.3
