Mrs. M. J Speer of this city is dangerously ill at Tale
Springs Tenn. Major D. N. Speer her son received a telegram
to come immediately and left last night at 10:15. Mrs.
Speers is not expected to recover.

DEATH 0F MRS. SPEER
Major D. N. Speer's mother Dies at Tate Springs
A telegram received in the city last night announces the
death at Tate Springs of Mrs Jane Speer. Mrs. Speer was
the mother of Major D. N. Speer who with her other children
were with her at the time of her death. She was the widow
of Dr. William Speer of Troop county who died in the
confederate service. Four children survive her Major D N
Speer ex-treasurer of state and president of the Exposition
mills. Mr. W. J. Speer the present assistant treasurer of
state Mr. George A Speer cashier of the LaGrange Banking
and Trust company and Mrs. L. H. Beck the wife of Mr. Lewis
H Beck of the firm of Beck & Gregg. Mrs Spear was a Miss
Norwood, a member of the famous Norwood family of South
Carolina and of Troop county Georgia. She was a sister of
Dr W. C. Norwood who made a national reputation among
medical men. The Norwood family is closely connected with
the Pickens and Caldwell families of South Carolina. Mrs.
Speer was a most excellent lady, greatly beloved by all who
knew her. She was an earnest Christian and a member of the
First Presbyterian Church. Her remains will be brought to
the city on Friday morning. Notice of the funeral will
appear tomorrow.4 5
