Atlanta Constitution - 11/14/1879 - The remains of the late
Senator John A. Speer arrived in this city yesterday from
Clifton Springs, New York, where the deceased was at the
time of his demise. As the funeral services were conducted
at Silver Springs, none were held here upon the arrival of
the body. The casket containing the remains were met at the
depot by Mr. D. N. Speer (Daniel Norwood), brother of the
deceased, Dr. R. D. Spalding, Rev. J. W. Heidt, Hon. N. J.
Hammond, and a number of other prominent citizens and
intimate friends of the deceased. The hearse containing the
remins was followed to Oakland Cemetery by quite a number
of carriages, in which were many of the most beloved
friends of the deceased. At the grave, Rev. J. W. Heidt
made a few remarks and offered up a fervent prayer.2
