James A Norwood was a member of Company B 26th Regiment, Georgia Infantry and was also a veteran of the Mexican War.

DEATH OF A WOUNDED SOLDIER - We regret to learn that Mr James Norwood a wounded Confederate soldier, but recently brought from the hospital in Washington city to his home in this county by the Masonic fraternity died of his wound on the morning of the 3d inst. On the skirmish line, near Petersburg 4th of May 1865, Mr Norwood received a severe shot in the upper part of the thigh. He was subsequently removed to Washington City where he was kindly cared for by the ladies and the Masons until very recently when he was sent for and brought to his home and family where he died. He was the last of our wounded in Northern hospitals.^{3 4}
