FESMIRE, Robert H
A long time Nashville Dentist. Passed from this life on
April 13, 2005 at the age of 81. He was born in Lexington,
TN on May 6, 1923 to the Rev. W.J. Fesmire and Eula Hoy
Fesmire. He was preceded in death in 2004 by his wife of 57
years, Maureen Holt Fesmire; siblings, Fleetwood Fesmire,
Anne F. Stapp, Evelyn F. Simmons and Frank Fesmire.
Survived by his children, Susan Fesmire (Michael A.) Rowe
of Nashville and Robert C. (Sheri Peters) Fesmire, D.D.S.
of Franklin; grandchildren, Shannon M. Rowe, David B. Rowe,
Jordan Fesmire and Ryan Fesmire; brother, J.W. Fesmire. Mr.
Fesmire was a graduate of Baxter Seminary in Baxter, TN. He
grew up one of six children of a Methodist Minister. He
entered Vanderbilt University in 1941 but his education was
interrupted by World War II. He became a pilot in the Air
Force with the 8th Air Force 801st492nd Bomb Group and flew
secret missions for the O.S.S. His group was named the
Carpetbaggers. After his service, he returned to Vanderbilt
and finished with a Chemical Engineering Degree; and was a
Member of the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society and Alpha Tan Omega
Fraternity. He worked for Humble Oil Co. in Texas as an
Engineer for several years and then decided he wanted to
return back to Tennessee and become a Dentist. He attended
the University of Tennessee Dental School in Memphis where
he graduated with honors. He started his dental practice in
Nashville for over 40 years. After retirement he wrote a
book about his experience during World War II "Flight of a
Maverick In The Secret War Against Hitler". He was a
lifelong Member of the Nashville Dental Society, TN Dental
Association and the American Dental Association. He was
past President of the Nashville Dental Society, American
Legion Post 5 for 40 years, a life Member of the Office of
Strategic Services Veterans Group, past Member of the
Downtown Rotary Club, longtime Member of Hillwood Country
Club and longtime Member of Belle Meade United Methodist
Church. Family will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary
Pallbearers will be The Nashville Dental Society and the
Kingswood Class at Belle Meade United Methodist Church, Mr.
Al Draper and Dr. Joe Lambert of Shelbyville, TN. The
family would like to send special Thanks to his caregiver
for over two years Leatrice Grigsby. Donations may be made
to the Belle Meade United Methodist Church; the Alzheimer's
Society; or Alive Hospice. Graveside services will be held
1 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2005 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation with the family Thursday, 4 til 7 p.m. and
Friday, 11 a.m. till p.m. at WOODLAWN FUNERAL HOME, 660
