Antonio Silveira
Monday, November 29
Antonio Diniz Silveira, 93, 38 Freeborn St., an assessor
for the town of Middletown for 14 1/2 years, died Sunday
morning at his home. He was the husband of Maria
DaConceicao Vieira Silveira. Mr. Silveira, one of the
founders of Jesus Saviour Church, was a life member the
Holy Name Society of the church and the Vasco da Holy
Ghost, Inc. Born in St. George, The Azores, he came to the
United States in the 1900's to settle in Middletown. As a
young man was interested in carpentry later he bought land
and became a farmer. While living in Middletown he worked
for local banks as a real estate appraiser. He was the son
the late Jose D. and Felicidade Rodrigues Silveira. Besides
his wife, he leaves three sons, Manuel D. Silveira II and
Anthony D. Silveira, of Middletown, and Arthur D. Silveira
of Portsmouth; nine daughters, Mrs. John F. Scares and Mrs.
Edward J. Corey, of Portsmouth, Mrs. John Cardoza, Mrs. Ida
Borges, Mrs. Manuel S. Perry, Mrs. Jesse DeCosta, Mrs.
Antonio Pimentel, Mrs. Gerald Haas and Mrs. Harlin Perry,
all of Middletown; a brother, Manuel D. Silveira of
Middletown; two sisters, Mrs. Anthony Mendes and Mrs.
Joseph Perry, both Middletown; 27 grandchildren, 30 great
grandchildren and great great grandchildren.2
