Mrs. Boyd Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. E. L. Boyd. 69, of Bemis, died Monday at 7:30 p.m., in
the Brints Hospital at Bolivar after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
from the Bemis Chapel with Rev. Ellis Pratt, pastor, and
Rev. W. II. Hopper officiating. Burial will be in Mount
Comfort Cemetery in Carroll County. Mrs. Boyd, the former
Minnie Ethel Bateman. was born Feb, 17, 1888 in Benton
County. She moved to Carroll County at an early age near
Buena Vista, with her parents, the late John J. Bateman and
Matilda Jane Robinson Bateman, and had made her home in
Bemis for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Bemis
Chapel Baptist Church. Her husband, Edgar L. Boyd preceded
her in death in 1952. She is survived by two sons. Rev.
Truman Boyd of Knoxville and Rev. R. B. Boyd of Parsons; a
daughter, Mrs. Earl Herriman of Bemis; two brothers. E. V.
Bateman of Dyersburg and Charlie Bateman of McKenzie, and
eight grandchildren. Her body will be at Smith Funeral Home
until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will be. Garney Scott,
Frank Canovin. Lewis Collins, Millerd Granger, Larry Denham
and Coy Sullivan.3
