James left Davidson County Tennessee and settled in Carroll
County Tennessee between 1820 and 1830. James had 1 female
slave in 1820. Her age was between 26 and 45 years.

This day information having been made and it appearing to
the Court here that one James Pinkston a resident citizen
of the County of Carroll and State of Tennessee is a
lunatic and incompetent to transact his ordinary business
transactions. It is therefore ordered by the Court that the
Sheriff of said County summons a Jury consisting of twelve
free holders to wit; Samuel Roes, Joshus Butler, Elisha
Smothers, Isaac Harris, Jesse Melton, Thomas Roberson,
Thomas C. Butler, John Horn, Henry Trout, Samuel Perler,
Elias Moore and Robert Arnold to ascertain such idiocy or
lunacy and make return thereof to the next succeeding
Court, and also such lands and tenements and goods &
Chattels ( it any there be) as the said James Pinckston,
lunatic or idiot, so found, as aforesaid, shall hold or
possess at the time of taking such inquisition and making
such examination, and that they report to the next term of
this Court - and all other things are reserved until the
coming in of said report.3 4 5
