Nell Blakney
Nell Rook Blakney, 78, of 541 Poplar died at 7:05 a.m.
Monday in Meadowgreen Nursing Home in Dallas where she had
lived for the past six months. Services are pending at
Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, U.S. Highway 277. Born April
26, 1900, in Jackson, Tenn., she married W.L. Blakney in
1920 in Lawrence, Ala. They came to Abilene from Marshall
in 1933. She was a member of First Christian Church. Mr.
Blakney died Sept. 20, 1977. Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Holland (Nell) Evans of Richardson; a son, Walter
Thomas of Providence, R.I.; a brother, Tom Rook of Memphis,
Tenn.; and six grandchildren. The family will be at 3473 S.
