Pedestrian 84 Killed by Car Ex-Contractor Was Crossing
Parkway - An afternoon stroll ended in death for Theodore
Pinkston 84 retired Memphis contractor who was struck by a
car on North Parkway at Decatur He died at 6:45 pm Saturday
at St Joseph Hospital where he was taken in a Thompson
ambulance Mr Pinkston who lived with his son Glenn Pinkston
exhibits director for the Mid-South Fair at 1244 Forrest
was crossing North Parkway at the intersection when he was
hit by a 1954 Buick driven by Ronald Ralph Burr 21 of 1027
National, going east on North Parkway. Officers H N Jones
and E C Gambrell who investigated said Mr Pinkston was
knocked 42 feet They said he was in the proper pedestrian
crossing Burr was charged with reckless driving. Mr
Pinkston's death was the 20th fatality on city streets this
year compared to 24 at this time last year. A native of
Carroll County Tenn Mr Pinkston moved to Memphis in 1916.
He was a telegraph operator for 20 years before going into
the construction business. In addition to his son at the
home address Mr Pinkston leaves another son Clifford
Pinkston of Buffalo Valley Tenn, a daughter Mrs Warren
Gibson of Amarillo Texas and many grandchildren and
greatgrandchildren National Funeral Home is in charge.4
