WYLY COLE DROWNED.
Lost His Life by Capsizing of A Sail Boat on the
Mississippi River.
Wyly Cole and two other young men were drowned by the
capsizing of a sail boat at Barfield, Ark., near Buffalo
Island on the Mississippi River last Friday morning, The
young man was identified by letters found in his valise,
which was recovered, And his father, W H. Cole, who resides
on Cypress Creek near Cross Roads, was notified of the
accident by telegram Owing to the illness of Mr. Cole, who
has been afflicted for some time, Mark Cole his brother,
went to Barfield Saturday, but all his efforts to recover
the body of his nephew were of no avail. Before returning
home Mr. Cole made ar rangements whereby a watch will be
keep along the river and it is hoped the body may be
recovered in this way. We learn that Wyly Cole, the
unfortunate young man, left home sometime in March, and was
seeking employment along the river when he lost his life.
The grief of his mother, when the sad news was broken to
her was unbounded, and she is still in a precarious
connition. As the other two young men who who were drowned
were unknown at Barfield, the belief is current that one of
them may have been a young man named Furr, who left here
several weeks ago to join young Cole, who was at that time
on the Tennessee side of the river. This is all conjecture,
however, and it is hoped that word may be soon received
from the young man that he is safe.1
