Alma Lorene Jones, 92, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, March
29, 2006, at Windwood Health and Rehab in Clinton. She was
born March 22, 1914, in Carroll County in West Tennessee,
the daughter of John Henry Abbott and America Elizabeth
Norwood Abbott. Mrs. Jones was a long-time member of
Robertsville Baptist Church. She was always willing to
serve her church in any capacity that was needed. She also
loved to read and was an avid supporter of the church
library. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star
and an advocate for the Recording For The Blind. She
enjoyed gardening, crocheting and music and was an
excellent seamstress, often making clothing without
patterns. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband,
James Arlie Jones in 1983, and children, Mary Lois
Stooksbury in 1992, Joyce Sharpe in 2001 and James Elmer
"Buddy" Jones in 2002. She is survived by daughters and
sons-in-law Doris and Sam Clinton and Ann and Boyd Hartman,
all of Knoxville, and Debbie McKenzie and husband Ben of
Rydall, Ga.; sons-in-law, Bill Sharpe of Andersonville, and
Earl Stooksbury of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law, Wanda Marthin
of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren; and many, many special friends. The
family wishes to express their love and appreciation for
the care and support given to Mrs. Jones by the staff and
residents of Windwood Health and Rehab Center. Funeral
services are Saturday, April 1, 2006, at 8 p.m. at
Weatherford Mortuary with Dr. Michael Prince officiating.
Graveside services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park. The family asks that any memorials be in the
form of contributions to the Moving Forward Building Fund
of Robertsville Baptist Church, 251 Robertsville Road, Oak
Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends on
Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.1
