Burns Prove Fatal For Leighton Polley Here On Wednesday
Burns suffered about the face, hands and arms on December 6
proved fatal Tuesday afternoon for Leighmon Logan Polley,
61, well known Selma painter, whose death occurred at 6
oclock in a local hospital where he had been under
treatment since the accident. Slight hope was held for his
recovery from the first because of the extent of his burns.
Mr. Polley was burnd when grass set on fire from carelessly
flung cigarettes closedin around him, and a companion,
Renzi Blankenship, was burned about the hands when he
attempted to rescue the painter from the flames. The
accident occurred near the Alabama River bridge, just south
of the city. Surviving Mr. Polley are his wife, Mrs. Josie
T. Polley one daughter Mrs. R. O. Sealy; and three sons,
John, French T., and Guy Polley, all of Selma. There also
are several grandchildren. One brothers, J. G. Polley, of
Berkley, W. Va., also survives. Services were held from the
residence, 307 Selma Avenue, at 4 oclock Wednesday
afternoon, the Rev., John E. Cunningham, pastor of the
Central Baptist Church, of- ficiating. Interment was made
in New Live Oak cemetery, arrange- ments' by Brislin
Brothers. Pallbearers were D. B. McMillan, John Martin, J.
L. Walsh, W. P. Cook, J. J. Moran and R. A. Price.2
