On Tuesday, September 7, 1915, William Harvey Boyd, at his home near Annapolis, Sonoma County, where he has lived for over 43 years, passed over to the great beyond. Mr. Boyd was born in Carrol county, Tennessee, on August 20, 1831, and lived there until 20 years of age then he went to Mississippi to oversee a cotton plantation, but becoming dissatisfied with driving Negroes, he went to New Madrid, Missouri, from which place he came to California in May, 1854, crossing the plains with an ox-team and reaching the state in September. The spring following he went to the gold mines near Jackson, Amador county, and not being very successful he then went to drive a mule team for the Calaveras Lumber Company In Amador and remained there for four years. He then went to Sutter Creek working in a store as clerk for the late Alvinzo Heywood, where he was engaged in mining at that place, and was there married to Martha E. Rice on August 19, 1860. Mr. Boyd, in 1861, moved to Hick's valley, Marin county, and became overseer of Alvinzo Heywood's cattle ranch, remaining there until the fall of 1865, and in 1866 he moved to the Sonoma mountains locating on the home place in 1870, where he has lived continuously ever since. Mr. Boyd leaves one brother, Martin P. Boyd, of Cottage Home, Tennessee, who is now the sole survivor of a family of 7 boys and 5 girls. Mrs. Boyd passed away on May 2, 1911, and there remain to mourn his departure three children and six grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Emma S. Fisk, of Oakland, Mrs. Ella O.
