Mary Read to Aaron R. Pendry

Know all men by these presents that I Mary Read of Halifax County in the Province of North Carolina, widow, for and in consideration of the sum of fifty four pounds proc. money to me in hand paid by Aaron Read Pendry of the county and province aforesaid.. The receipt whereof I the said Mary Read doth hereby acknowledge, hath granted, sold and by these presents do here by absolutely bargain, sell and deliver unto the said Aaron Read Pendry, his heirs or assigns one negro woman named Sarah. To have and to hold the said negro woman unto him the said Aaron Read Pendry, to his and his assigns, to his and their only proper use and benefit and the said Mary Read for herself her heirs Exrs and Adms. Doth consent promise and agree to and with the said Aaron Read Pendry his heirs and assigns to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid Negro woman from and person or persons whatever laying any claim or title. Whereas in witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this 17th day of August Amo Dom. 1769.
